Steven has been appointed President of the Chipping Campden Music Festival
The Chipping Campden Music Festival is one of my all-time favourite festivals. I’ve been going there as often as possible since my first visit, many years ago. Set in one of the most beautiful towns in England, the festival attracts an extraordinary range of artists, who perform in the magical atmosphere of St James’ Church to audiences of extraordinary devotion and concentration. (The festival also endeared itself to me by being the ONLY organisation which, though forced to cancel my engagement in 2020, insisted on paying the whole fee!) On being invited to become president of the festival, I had only two requests: 1) that my name be added to the outside of the church, before St James’; and 2) for the church to be shut down for two years for repairs. (Haha.) Despite both being inexplicably refused, I am still very happy to be more closely associated with this unique festival.
