Steven inspires literary works

On April 2nd in the US, May 16th in the UK, a new volume of short stories by the wonderful author of Rules of Civility, A Gentleman in Moscow and The Lincoln Highway, Amor Towles will appear – his first short story collection, entitled Table for Two. One of the stories, The Bootlegger, centres around a performance of Bach’s first suite at Carnegie Hall by – Steven Isserlis! All we can say here is that the performance is illegally recorded – with unexpected consequences. More details here: https://www.amortowles.com/table-for-two-about-the-book/

Incidentally, Steven also inspired the scene – though not the character – in the latest novel by the great Irish author Sebastian Barry, Old God’s Time, in which a cellist plays Bruch’s Kol Nidrei.
